A look at seasonality as a survival concept that changes resources, movement, preparation, and player decisions.

In BELORET, we are considering seasons as more than a visual filter placed over the same landscape. The concept is that a changing season should alter the practical meaning of the world: which routes are reliable, what resources are available, how far a person can travel, and what preparation is necessary before leaving shelter.
Winter could affect access to water, food, heating, visibility, and movement. Snow may expose tracks while concealing terrain. Frozen ground and waterways can open some routes and make others dangerous. Clothing, fuel, and shelter would become connected concerns rather than separate status bars. The intention is not to add difficulty for its own sake, but to make familiar locations demand new decisions.
Summer should not simply be the easy season. Heat, exposed travel, water quality, vegetation, and the condition of stored supplies can create a different pressure. Spring and autumn can matter through unstable weather, mud, changing daylight, and transitions in available resources. Each period should encourage a shift in strategy instead of repeating the same routine under a different sky.
The seasonal system is a direction of development and is not being presented as fully implemented. Its pace, severity, and relationship with other survival mechanics require testing. We want changes to be understandable enough for players to prepare, while retaining the uncertainty that makes adaptation meaningful. Exact timings and balance values will only make sense after the underlying systems can be evaluated together.
A successful version of this idea would also make planning visible in the world. Stockpiled fuel, repaired clothing, a chosen route, or a temporary shelter should reflect decisions made before the weather turns. Failure would not always mean an immediate end; it could mean spending more time, exposing a safer reserve, or accepting help from someone else. Those tradeoffs are where seasonality can support the broader survival sandbox instead of existing as a separate calendar mechanic.
BELORET is a multiplayer survival sandbox set in a fully fictional post-Soviet region inspired by the Southern Urals, Bashkortostan, and similar industrial and natural environments.
